Plein Air

Member Wendy Manning has 8 oil pastel paintings in the Plein Air Painters Bay of Fundy Show. Seven of the paintings were painted on location.

Workshop

Luba Sterlikova   I am having a two-day oil pastel workshop at the JarrettThor Fine Arts gallery in Colonial Beach, VA, June 1-2, 2015. The gallery is a commercial one with monthly exhibits. As the workshop participants you will be able to show your art in the Teacher/Alumni annual exhibit at the JarrettThor Fine Arts . It's a great opportunity for the artists as it's difficult to get into a commercial gallery, especially for free. The gallery owners, Carl and Joyce, are extremely nice people. They provide an excellent setting for the workshop, including delicious lunch, snacks and drinks. Colonial Beach is a very cozy resort place on the banks of the Potomac river, and the gallery is set right next to the beach. You will be able to combine art and relaxation:) There are many good restaurants around. The gallery will help you to find accommodations. In October 2013, I earned a Pass with Distinction from London Art College in their Pet Portraits Diploma course.

This was a distance learning course involving the use of a variety of drawing and painting media. Although oil pastels were not among the recommended materials, I was keen to see what level of detail and realism could be achieved in this medium, and was given the go-ahead to use them for a number of assignments when a particular medium was not specified by the tutor.

My final piece of work was this 16" x 12" double dog portrait on Canson Mi-Teintes paper. I used Sennelier and Caran d'Ache oil pastels over an underdrawing done in Neocolor II wax pastels. My thanks go to Angela Pattison, Thaddeus Quintin and Joshua Mayer for the reference photos.

Congrats to Tatiana Myers

Tatiana's oil pastel "Illuminated" was accepted into the Grand National Exhibition 2012 by The American Artists Professional League. This is an online show.
