The first session takes place on a Saturday morning in Karen's studio in No. Scottsdale surrounded by the beauty of the Sonoran desert.    Or instead, consider the second session: hosted inside a Scottsdale Gallery on Main Street,  right before Art Walk.  Dine nearby afterwards and enjoy Scottsdale's prestigious Art Walk in the evening.  Either session offers a  relaxing, hands-on opportunity to explore your feelings through color, and to see how that experience can enrich other aspects of your life.  Oil pastels and paper are used to identify and overcome the inhibitions that limit us in a playful and relaxed setting. All materials are provided.  Attendees take away art work suitable for framing. This workshop is appropriate for both beginners as well as experienced artists who want to get more comfortable with abstract techniques.

THE SILK SESSION DESCRIPTION:
Attendees will learn about different grades of silk, resist, special effects, fixatives, how to paint with dye, how to build frames, how to make silk steamers, and also how to prepare the finished silk for the steaming process. We will wrap silk and steam on the spot!  While we cover a lot of technical ground, we will also pay close attention to our creative voices --- honoring what that looks and feels like for each individual through visualization and meditative exercises.  All materials will be provided.  Participants will make at least 4 different size silk paintings (21 x 21-- 6 x 24-- 8 x 54 and 12 x 60 inches), all suitable for wearing or framing.  You will experience everything first hand that you need to know in order to continue playing with this wonderful medium on your own. But that doesn't have to be your goal. This is a playful experience that builds confidence and supports both novices and experienced artists alike intending to free up creative spirit that is vital in all walks of life, not just in the process of making art.
